It so happened that I’ve dedicated over 20 years of my career to enterprise software – ERP systems. So how could I not love them? They’re my life.
While studying at university, my classmates and I studied software development, data management, DBMS, and data models. And, of course, I dreamed of data management becoming my career path. But it turned out that my specialization wasn’t development and programming, nor architecture, nor analytics, but rather consulting (and later other areas), and specifically in the field of ERP systems.
Ironically, after working with ERP systems for so long, I was forced to change direction, and, quite unexpectedly for me, I moved into data management. I’m grateful that I now have the opportunity to view data not as an abstraction, but as a vast array of ways to use it, with data management serving as the connecting link and enabling environment.
Returning to ERPs, I know everything about them: what users expect from them, the principles behind their design, how to implement and support them, develop them, integrate them, and migrate them to other systems.
Now I want to share with you my opinion on both enterprise software and data management systems.
